We visited: 14. Festival Svet V Malem - Pivka 2022
We left Zagreb around 7 am and arrived at half past 10 in Pivka, Slovenia for the 14th Festival Svet V Malem.
After registering and setting up our exhibits, we re-parked the car according to the organizers' instructions and used the time before the competition to visit the Museum of Military History and pleasant and surprisingly cheap coffee.
MARKO: After the opening, my appointment for an eye coloring workshop soon followed, which I did at the invitation of our Slovenian friend from Miniatures.si, Bineta Logra. I used the miniature Eyes of the Danish company Nordlys Miniatures.
After the workshop, we went on a tour of over 500 works by more than 160 miniaturists and modelers from 6 countries. In addition to sightseeing, we also chose the Best of Show by UMS Agram. Eventually the choice fell on the Westfront 1918 bust of Italian miniaturist Pietro Todar. In addition to that bust, he had other notable works (like Dr. Frankenstein).
KRUNO: Although I didn't know until the last minute whether I would join the UMS "Agram" expedition in the campaign on SVM, I admit… it was great. The location of the Museum of Military History was a great idea, because the exhibits of the museum exhibition became the backdrop of the competition, which created an interesting contrast. The hosts were very kind and well organized, I did not notice any major problems with the schedule or organization. The workshops were appropriate and interesting, and the offer of models and materials caused salivation and awakened Gollum in me. I was also surprised by the number of visitors.
KRUNO: It was interesting to watch so many different models and ideas in one place. Of course, some of them were more "cool" than others, but all of them showed the effort and love for the hobby. Special to me were those who told a story of their own. He could watch them for hours and imagine what was going on, what the miniatures were talking about or why they were in such a state, what they had all survived. It was interesting to watch the models in the junior competition and remember their beginnings… in the last century. I definitely recommend a visit to the next SVM, especially if it will be held at the same location. And I will try and do something until the next competition that will be able to compete at least to some extent with the quality of the exhibits.
GORAN: What impressed me in this visit is the fact that our neighbors manage to cash in on everything, including the memories of the former common state. Regarding the competition itself, it was done correctly, although 1-2 categories of figures would no longer be out of place. The level and number of exhibits was quite good for a competition like this, so we made nice friendships and contacts with several fellow miniaturists. From the organizational point of view, the only thing that didn't suit me personally was the fact that the awards ceremony was held in a cramped space with a lot of echo, which is why we couldn't hear or understand much. This shortcoming can be seen through the fingers, given that there was a significant downpour just before the award, but I have the impression that it would be held in the same space regardless of weather conditions. All in all, a nicely filled one-day trip, crowned with a medal in the K-1 category, some purchased material, and beautiful memories.
Overall, there was a lot of socializing, good food, but also medals (the total number of members of UMS "Agram" won pleasantly surprised us) as well as good shopping.
