Black Templars Sword Brother – part 3
In this series of articles, I will explain my approach to painting a Black Templar Sword Brother from the old metal box, and in this article I am continuing the painting process.
I continued painting using the same color as in the previous step, only I painted the edges of the shoulder pads and their reliefs.
Next came the shading using a Secret Weapon Miniatures wash, called Ruby. I didn’t use Citadel washes, because I regularly obtain a very shiny finish, which doesn’t mean that you will attain the same result.
I next went and painted the starting highlight on the reliefs on the shoulder pad and the entire cape, I have used the Blood Red color by Scale 75. While applying the highlight on the shoulder pad reliefs, it is necessary to pay attention that the lines that are made with the brush are as thin as possible, this can be achieved by wiping the excess paint from the brush on the pallet, as well as reforming the tip of the brush, I recommend using a Windsor & Newton size 000 brush.
After a failed experiment with Secret Weapon Miniatures’ Flesh Wash, Marko advised me how and using which shades to create more convincing shadows on the outer side of the cape, and which won’t produce a highly contrasting finish.
I obtained the needed shade by mixing Mojave White (Scale 75) and Flesh Wash (Secret Weapon Miniatures) in a roughly 1:1 ratio.
After I obtained the needed shade for the shadows, I started applying it in the shadows on the outer side of the cape. I went about this so that the thickest trail from the brush was made in the deepest shadows, and I gradually thinned the trail towards the lower edge of the cape.
