Krieger Bust – Painting the background terrain
In this article, I will describe the painting of the part of the terrain I put behind the bust. The bust was printed by DiyConnect in quality resin for the weekend Miniature Painting Workshop held in May. You can read more about the Workshop here.
In the last article I described how to put snow on the terrain and now I will describe how I painted it. First you need to protect the surface on which you paint (table). It helps if that protection has a muse with a stimulating background text.
The terrain was first sprayed in a two-tone combination. First black spray and then white zenithal to highlight details while keeping shadows blackened. I put three types of washes on this base so that there are transitions between each of the shades. In this case, green, purple and reddish.
When that layer of wash has dried, I cover everything with black wash - to connect all the colours and further emphasize the shadows.
I let everything dry well and then I start with the drybrush. Gray combined with off white. I use lighter and lighter layers. (Note: since I plan to finish weathering with oils, I can use a slightly messier method like drybrush here.)
When I’m done with the acrylics, I start weathering with oils. First I cover everything with Odourless Thinner to make the oils flow better. Then I add dots and dashes of various shades of oil (green, blue and black in this case).
I then smear and remove the excess oils with an Odourless Thinner until I am satisfied with the result obtained.
