40k Ork Warboss
In today's article, I will go through the process of coloring the figure of Ork Warboss with Big Choppa, produced by Games Workshop.
I started with black base color, which I applied with black matte spray, the reason is that this color is better for the darker color palette, which I used when painting this figure.
I painted the skin of the figure in a relatively saturated and bright green, called Irati Green from the Scalecolor collection. I did not dilute the paint, as I usually do when using Scalecolor paints, because I think that, except in the case of thin coatings, which are necessary to achieve extremely gradual and gentle transitions, they do not need it.
The next thing I painted on the figure were pants, belts and other leather details. For this purpose, I used the Walnut color from the Scalecolor collection.
Then I started painting the shoulder pads and bracelets on the wrists, as well as the iconography on the bar above the figure’s head, I painted these parts using the Decayed Metal color from the Scalecolor collection.
This was followed by silver metal (Heavy Metal - Scalecolor collection), these parts include both arms, buckles, belt holders, chains, protective caps on shoes, spikes on the collar, spare cartridge, metal plate on pants, bar handle handle figures and metal handles of weapons on the back of the figure.
About the same time I started painting the teeth and the inside of the figure's mouth. I started with Deep Red from the Scalecolor collection, then I put on Carroburg Crimson from Games Workshop for shadows. I also painted my teeth with Thar Brown paint from the Scalecolor collection.
Using the color Dubai Brown from the Scalecolor collection, I painted the leather straps of the weapon on the back of the figure, and the leather handle of the weapon in the right hand.
I also painted, just the color Orange Leather from the Scalecolor collection, a bag on the back of the figure, as well as gun cases on the back. I also painted the collar on the figure with Black Leather from the Scalecolor collection.
The next step in painting the figure was to apply shadows and give patina to metal parts (Wash - a filter that also works shading in the recesses on the figure). For this purpose I used Agrax Earthshade from Games Workshop and put two layers of the same. With Agrax Earthshade, I also darkened and shaded the weapon handles on both my back and right arm.
At the same time, I highlighted the bulging parts of the tongue and gums again with Deep Red, and completed this process with Aldebaran red, trying to keep the previous layers on the deeper parts as visible as possible. Any leaks of paint from the surface to the surface, usually on the teeth and green skin, I fixed with Irati Green or Thar Brown, depending on whether it is teeth or skin.
Then I started painting the teeth on the right shoulder guard with silver Heavy Metal from the Scalecolor collection, and I made, following the example of the orc Goff clan, black and white fields on the left shoulder guard.
I did this with a lot of trial and error, because it is a very detailed and precise technique of freehand drawing with a brush (freehand).
Finally, following the advice of my colleague Jure Cukar, whom I thank on this occasion, I started to add stronger shades on green skin, using two washes from Games Workshop, Druchii Violet (purple) and Biel-Tan Green (dark green), but I started with dark green first, so I intensified the deepest shades with purple.
Also, to give extra importance to the pieces of armor on the shoulders, I added using Heavy Metal and Black paint from the Scalecolor collection, an imitation of the damage from the battle on those surfaces.
