Installing a LED strip inside a Billy/Oxberg glass case
In this article, I will describe the process of installing an LED strip in a Billy/Oxberg display case that I got from IKEA. The process can be replicated in other wooden display cases - you just have to pay attention to "critical" places such as the depth of the shelves and the position of the door hinges. All I needed to work was an ordinary electric drill with a drill with a diameter of 8 mm (so that the LED strip can comfortably pass through the drilled holes). In addition, all the tools I used were the ones you need to assemble the display case itself.
I drilled a hole in the back of the display case with a drill with a diameter large enough for the cables of the LED strip to pass through the hole.
Considering that all the shelves (including the central one, which serves to secure the entire wardrobe) go almost to the outer edge of the display case, it was necessary to drill each shelf. In this way, the LED strip goes through the shelf.
The LED strip is glued in place and working.
When installing the Oxberg door, I noticed that the hinges would go over the LED strip if I followed the instructions from IKEA. To prevent this, I moved the hinges back which required one shim per hinge (6 in my case).
And that's it. You just need to fill the showcase!
