The Bust Saga II (part 1)
If you are a bit older and from Zagreb, you probably remember Saga o Pičekima? If not, the joke will elude you. Well, hopefully beside the Croatian pun, you will like the rest of this saga. Kruno, Sebastian and Marko will take you on a miniature painting journey while they build and paint one and the same bust. Why call it a saga? Because everyone who knows Agram knows this will take a while to finish.... They chose a dead/undead knight bust by FER Miniatures. As far as we know, they will do different painting versions...
SEBASTIAN: This is my first ever bust, and I knew I wanted to increase my painting skills by tackling a larger figure for some time now. I had trouble deciding on which (there are so many cool ones out there). but when Marko suggested we paint this bust together, I saw it as an opportunity to learn. I also like the bust because, even though it has fantasy elements (it's clearly an undead templar knight) it can also be painted realistically, with muted colors, maybe som NMM, or OSL. Plenty of possibilities, and that made me excited. After I got my hands on it, all the textures and small details made me even more excited. First thing I did was wash it in soapy water, before gluing it together with superglue, and priming it, first with black, and secondly with a white primer from the upper left side, as I feel this bust is a good opportunity to do something more interesting with a light source, than the typical "sun from above" as I usually do on my minis.
MARKO: The last saga ended infamously with my work not being completed... but that doesn't mean we can't try a new saga. New team, new bust and maybe more mutual motivation! FER Miniatures produces fantastic works and it seems to me that I have the largest number of their figures (not only busts) in my collection. This bust did not disappoint either, a handful of details, but also the atmosphere comes in this set. It consists of several parts that fit very well into each other so that minimal preparation is required to bring it to the spraying stage. By default, I used the black/white combination. Maybe I went a bit overboard with the white hahaha...
KRUNO: The bust is very interesting to me, it is full of details and it will be a challenge to paint it. An additional challenge is to avoid looking like the busts that Marko and Sebastian will make. The Templar white uniform is logical, but I need to come up with something that will make it original.
