Modelling the Rockets for the Peregrine Gunship
In this article I will explain how (and why) I modeled the rockets' smoke trail.
The reason for making the mockup is because I don't like the way the stand that the Gunship model I prepared for Heavy Gear Blitz comes on looks. I tried to paint it in black, but it just didn't suit me, and considering the style I'm painting this army with, I didn't want to put some kind of green that's hard to blend in. The idea of rockets fit relatively naturally into the topic.
The process of making rockets is relatively simple, I made balls from green stuff, placed a thicker wire than a paper clip (which I pinned to the base) and lined up the balls one by one. The manufacturing process turned out to be simple, but the positioning of the balls turned out to be a completely different story. In order to secure the balls to the model, I nailed them to the aircraft itself and to the stand, which managed to fix it enough so that it wouldn't jump with the wire. I used super glue to attach them to the base and the craft.
After I installed them, I tried to smooth the green stuff with water as much as I could and waited for it to dry. I tried shading gray and white to get the effect of cartoon smoke, with basic shading from below with gray. After completing the base, I'm happy with the result as it turned out. It's not the smoothest modeling, but I'll try to improve it next time.
