CSSR 1986 Diorama part 2
In this series of articles, we will follow my work on a new diorama, another in the 1986 series. This time, we take you behind the Iron Curtain to Czechoslovakia.
Last time we assembled the substation, now it's time to get started on making the base. The first thing I did was trace the floor plan onto the styrofoam base that comes with the Bucomodelbases base.
After I drew it out, I started cutting out the different levels of the diorama. The highest part will be the pavement surface. Everything else is on the lower levels..
When I was satisfied with the final cut, I started making the square pavement. Older people will remember that there were many streets in Zagreb just like that. For this, I decided to use textured boards that I had bought a long time ago in a store with a railway. I cut the boards at an angle.
Checked if the design fits the cars, and was very satisfied.
Then, using PVA (which I had in the meantime obtained), I glued the pavement into place and secured it using clothing pegs.
Then I cut out a tram track from plasticard that would run through the left corner of the diorama. I glued it in using superglue and carefully cut it out following the corner of the diorama.
Finally, I filled the holes in the transformer station joints with Green Stuff. And left it to dry until the next session.
