Meet our members – SEBASTIAN SØGÅRD
Tell us something about yourself.
I’m a 33 year-old filmmaker from Oslo. I’m educated in film, across the Scandinavias, but have mostly been working as a videographer and editor for tv and online the last few years. Before that I also made my own films and documentaries, screened all over the world, and there was a time when I was making a lot of music videos for Croatian bands and artists. I have a Croatian girlfriend, and have been living in Zagreb since 2016 (with the exception of Covid, which I spent in Oslo).
How did you hear about / get into contact with Agram?
My aformentioned girlfriend works as a lecturer in Kinoklub, which is located in the same building as Agram. She knows I’m interested in miniature painting, and during the Black Queen competition one year, she brought me there to have a look at the exhibition. I noticed a poster advertising something like a painting community, which I had been looking for, for some time by then. The next Wednesday I showed up, was very well received, and have been coming there every Wednesday (when I’m in Zagreb) since.
What do you do within your hobby? What attracts you?
I painted Warhammer 40k and Lord of the Rings as a teenager, but stopped when other interests (like film) took over. During Covid I rediscovered the hobby through Games Workshop and Youtube, and quickly got into painting again. Then as I got better at painting, I truly fell in love with the hobby when I discovered certain Youtube channels making ambitious and awesome dioramas. Since then I’ve been mainly focusing on a few, large diorama projects, trying out different techniques with each one, and of course trying to improve my miniature painting at the same time. Nowadays I paint Age of Sigmar, Star Wars Legion, but I’m always on the lookout for cool, new miniatures from smaller producers, with interesting textures, poses and that are challenging painting-wise.
What do you like the most about being a member of Agram?
I really like the fact that I have a place to go regularly and paint, with a bunch of other people with the same interest, who never get tired of talking hobby, miniatures and other nerdy topics (my girlfriend has probably heard enough Star Wars trivia by now). At Agram I can get tips, pointers or just look at what other people in the hobby are up to. This stimulates my curiosity and usually inspires my next project. It’s always nice to have painters and builders to look up to. I also like the fact that, even if I don’t really play much, other people do, so I can observe games, listen to rules and see another side of the hobby that I personally don’t engage much with.
